well...a glass rod dipped in ammonia soln gives dense white fumes with hcl gas..so it is used as a test..
wy it is not used...this q is one of those strange ones!...but maybe bcoz it forms dense white fumes which need to be condensed...or maybe bcoz hcl gas formed is needed...

it says brought near the testtube coz the gas being heavier than air rises up..so it reacts wid NH3...i hav not seen anything like that written in any book....dat it shud not b taken inside....maybe its bcoz they dont want NH4OH to take part in the reaction

see, the glass rod is brought near the mouth to check whther the test tube is filled with hcl or not, so, to see, whether it is filled, we should only keep it near the mouth, if we take it inside, then wats the use of the test? Smile

maybe the reaction is explosive? Suspect
