during the day when the stomata open 2 take in sunlight & CO2 for photosynthesis transpiration also occurs due 2 opening of stomata.thus, transpiration is aprice paid 4 photosynthesis.there's a lot of shit about inc. of osmotic pressure, but i''l b goi'n 2 deep.

ok i'll tell it in simple words.the guard cells that surround the stomata are bean shaped.when they take in more water they get arched outwards & because of this the opening between them widens.now this causes the water present near the opening to evaporate(transpire).now if u ask me how the guard cells become arched, its because of photosynthesis.this causes plants 2 manufacture food(minerals).now when there are more minerals inside the guard cells(but less water inside),water which is present outside the cells in larger quantity flows into the cells.u know water diffuses frm a higher conc. 2 a lower conc.& this causes the guard cells 2 open 4 transpiration.my fingers hav turned sore typing.
